Description

Do not adjust your sets, this is not a mirage. We have here a 1967 Epiphone Olympic in super rare and super cool Pacific Blue.

Introduced in 1960 along the same lines as Gibson’s Melody Maker, the Olympic had a makeover in 1963, aligning it with the Coronet, Wiltshire and Crestwood but retaining the narrower body depth. Available in both single and double pickup configurations, the maestro vibrato became standard in 1965. The line was discontinued in 1970.

The finish is in stunning condition. Not to be mistaken for Pelham Blue, or even Inverness Green, Pacific blue is one of the rarest shades, usually seen on the bigger ticket items such as Firebirds. The original colour can be seen where the clear coat has worn away. The finish has crazed as you'd expect and there are a few patches of minor damage but nothing that detracts from the overall look of the guitar.

The neck too is in good shape. As with the body, the finish has crazed but not worn. The frets and fretboard are in excellent shape with plenty of life left in the frets.

The hardware is all correct and in good shape. The maestro vibrato works well and the guitar stays in tune without difficulty.

Electrically everything is correct, pots are dated as week 4 of 1966. There is some sign of solder having been reheated but no modifications.

The guitar comes with its correct softshell case

Sonically this guitar is a surprise. The single pickup seems to be located in the perfect position so as to provide that right amount of treble without being shrill. This means that the controls can be manipulated without the loss of output and yielding a wide variety of very useful tones. The neck is very comfortable and the light weight makes it a joy to play.

A killer, rare finish with tones to match. Why look anywhere else? Grab this one before its gone…
